A amusing cross cultural moment yesterday (Sunday, Jan 25). We made our regular bike ride stop at Planet Ice Cream * - Shed 20, Auckland Viaduct - and the lovely lady who owns the store was there. It's the first time this year we'd seen her and my mate said:
"Hello, Happy New Year"
To which, beaming, she responded;
"No, not yet, it's tomorrow!"
And, because she's Chinese, it was!
Planet Ice Cream is a tiny little store packed with all kinds of merchandise. While it has a wide range of ice cream, the main product, you can also get anything from a phone card to grocery lines. Seems a little out of place in the yuppie'ville that is the Viaduct but serves a useful purpose.
We stop there because, she's lovely, it's about the right place to stop for a refresher and the Rush Munroe Ice Cream she stocks is New Zealand's finest.
