Happy New Year!
Another year has flown by, time to look back from a bloggy/social media (not just CAD blog) perspective at the year:
@ a new 'me' on the web
Twenty three, and a bit, years after starting a blog I finally got around to getting my own domain for it. It's still published with TypePad it can now be found via www.robincapper.net. [2024-09-01 reverted back to Typepad as the domain mapping has broken]
Back to CAD
A new role, new industry, meant catching up with some new software. Fun to learn more about Civil 3D, QGIS and more supporting IT in a Civil Engineering company over the year with a great team.
Best social media related event(s):
- David Farrier's Webworm
- Home for David's writing, and investigative journalism has a brilliant community (in the comments) but became real life with a brilliant complimentary screening of his favourite movie: Jurassic Park. It was a great evening, and certainly the first time I've seen it in a cinema, maybe at all*.
* I really can't remember if saw Jurassic Park on rental DVD/VHS or have seen so many clips just think I have!
- Skeptics in the Pub and Conference
- Not really social media but enjoying the revived Auckland Skeptics in the Pub Meetups and recent NZ Skeptics annual conference as met many on-line friends there.
- Walk The Pod
- A fun virtual community built around a regular 'lunchtime walk' podcast and walking, wherever you are, in real life.
Best new media (Podcasters and YouTubers):
I listen, view, and support, a lot of creators added a few more to the play list this year. Some of the best discovered include:
- Kris Atomic
- Kris & Andrew share their transition from London City life to permanent residence on a canal longboat. Beautifully shot (both are professional photographers), edited and narrated with a lovely personal touch.
- Me And Mon Ami
- Tim, Mr Boo and Twiggy (the chihuahua) push their little Citroën Ami electric quadricycle 'car' to the limit as they explore the coast and hills around their Villefranche-sur-Mer, French Rivièra, home.
- AussieEspañol
- AussieEspañol purchased a Tuk-tuk (and adopted a dog) in Bolivia. Currently headed South to Ushuaia where he will turn around and head back North to Alaska!
- Calum
- In his own words: "Scottish man from a tiny remote island who likes making videos on unusual stuff". I'll add, superbly researched, produced, and presented on a wide range of subjects from 'VW Beetles (and Fiat 500) in Antarctica', history like 'WWII Rescue Buoys', island and travel life, and more!
- Follow up from last year
- Benson The Biking Viking | Still following his bicycle touring trip from Alaska to (and recently crossed the border to) Argentina.
- Alluring Arctic Sailing | Currently winter over sailing in Alaska before tackling the Northwest Passage next summer.
Thanks for visiting, reading, following, and commenting wherever you do. Let's see what 2024 brings!
