Imagine you have to research a topic…
These days that probably means first stop is the web. You have to find and collate lots of results, filter and display them in a concise manner ready for further analysis or sharing with others. MindManager is a nice way to arrange information combining text, images, file links while allowing easy sharing as a map or publishing via it’s export features. Now there is a new Mindjet Labs Research Accelerator add-in for MindManager which eases the research portion of the process.
The topic of this demo research map was inspired by a colleague commenting on a complex MindManager map I was editing today:
“No wonder you're a Flying Spaghetti Monster believer,
Look at the noodly appendages!”
It’s true that the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) does somewhat resemble a MindManager map. Is this coincidence, design or evolution…
You can use the Research Accelerator to find out more about the FSM.
The Research Accelerator adds a “Research Pane” to MindManager allowing easy searching of web resources and integration of results into a map. By default Google, Yahoo (Web, News, Local, Jobs, Image), Flickr, Technorati and any research services installed with Office 2003 will be shown as available services in the Research Accelerator.
Enter a search term and click to “research” and the results appear. The screen-shot shows the results of a Google Search for Flying Spaghetti Monster. You can see short page summaries in the pane and easily add results to the map;
- Click on the map icon next to a result(s) to put it into the map.
- Drag images or text from the results to the map to create topics.
These are added as a topic with text summary and hyperlink to the full page. If the result is an image (Yahoo images, Flickr) it’s also added to the topic. Very rapidly you can build a comprehensive summary of a topic combining extracts from web pages with links to the full page.
- The initial idea…
- An introduction to FSM “beliefs”.
- A summary of the official FSM website with page links.
- FSM related articles on my own blog.
- The FSM Wikipedia page.
- A selection of results from;
- Google Blogs
- Yahoo
- Technorati.
127 Topics, 112 hyperlinks and 170 kb file size.
Click on the preview to view the map with the free I.E. MindManager Web Viewer and learn more about FSM. Perhaps you’ll end up a becoming a Pastafarian
