With all the new product releases you’ve probably found stuff you like, stuff you don’t and stuff you hoped would be there and isn’t?
Get involved in the Beta Feedback program and you'll be able to help improve the tools you use. It will cost you a little time but can also save you heaps. During the ADT 2006 beta I learned of one feature that enabled me to avoid lots of work for the production team.
In response to corporate requirements we were about to change from using ADT AEC Space objects to AEC Area objects to measure the retail areas. The sole reason for this was to enable graphic display of the space hierarchy for retail departments. Spaces show department but we also needed to show other levels of retail use. My job after the Christmas holiday break was to build an Area Hierarchy and then the team were going to set to work converting spaces to areas & attaching them to the new hierarchy. Consider there are about 50 department space styles, maybe 100-150 space objects/store, about 100 stores and you can see it would be a fair chunk of work. I came back from holiday and found the display theme feature included in an ADT beta. A day playing with it showed that need to rework our spaces would be gone. To graphically display the hierarchy required adding one style based property, importing the updated styles to the store plans and waiting until ADT 2006, with display themes, was released.
If I hadn’t seen the beta, I wouldn’t have known and we would have wasted hours reworking our data. One person spending some time with the beta saved a lot of production work for the team. Fair trade I think.
