Measure of measures

We use measurement everyday but have you given much thought how these definitions originated? I’m currently reading The Measure of All Things about Delambre and Mechain's meridian expedition of 1792-1799 to calculate the length of the metre. It’s a great read as combines scientific discovery, history, politics and adventure as they were travelling in France measuring landmarks along the meridian during the French Revolution! A story today from The Register details how the Kilogram is the only metric measure that still refers to a single reference object, a lump of platinum-iridium alloy in Paris, rather than a reproducible physical constant.... Autodesk DWF Viewer updated

A new version of the free Autodesk DWF Viewer is available. The main enhancements in Autodesk DWF Viewer 6.0 are Print Preview, revised Navigator palettes, menus, and tool-bars and an option to hide/show Composer Mark-up status colour coding. I like the new “always available” layer palette for layer enabled DWF’s (used to be a pop-up dialog) but I’m not a fan of the combined view/shading fly-out with 3d DWF’s. Boeing to use 3DL Sail technology to "spin" composite aircraft fuselages

Boeing are planning to develop principles and technology created by North Sails for 3DL yacht sails to "spin" composite aircraft fuselage sections for the 7E7 aircraft. While composite aircraft fuselage are used for military (small, largely hand made and very expensive) and use of components in passenger aircraft isn't new the size of the components they are planning is vast. Wow, its been a year - already!

Doing a few posts about new CAD Blogs tonight had me looking at the history of this one. I just realised its a little over a year since it started with that first timid post on March 30, 2004.
