This was actually a Doggie Walk Thought but occurred while waiting to cross the road. I watched a Refuse Receptacle Technician carefully installing something near a local bus stop. She’d finished & gone by the time I got across the road but I discovered it was the Auckland Council wiping out remnants of the former local authority.
An older bin down the road still has the Waitakere City Council logo (below left) but I guess that crappy stylised Pohutukawa logo (which you may gather I hate) will be there soon.
The Waitakere logo represents the Ranges and their native bush which dominate the landscape out here. Auckland Council has a logo which symbolises the sea and a flowering tree. Just about everywhere in NZ is on the coast and Pohutukawa are common “north of a line stretching from New Plymouth (39° S) to Gisborne (38° S)” most of which isn’t Auckland.
What this logo says about Auckland: we have no identity?
