My PC Application Map revisited
A few days ago I blogged about mapping the applications installed on my PC, using MindManager & Belarc Advisor, prior to a rebuild. Thanks to the recently released MindManager Viewer I can share the map in it’s original format rather than the static image in the original post.
The map embedded in this post requires the free I.E. Mindjet MindManager Viewer Control available from http://www.mindjet.com/viewer_blog/
With the viewer installed you can pan/zoom the map and expand/collapse the topics by clicking on the + – by the topic. Click/hover on the Notes icon to see my comments on the application or click the browse icon by most topics to open relevant web-pages.
You can copy topics or entire branches and paste to other applications by selecting topics and right click>copy. If you paste into another application you get the topic text, if you Edit>Paste Special you can paste the topic/branch as a bitmap image.
UPDATE 9 September, 2005: As mentioned in the comments below I have added a link to a MindManager Word Doc export of the map. You can see what a good job MindManager does exporting to Word. The only post export edit I did was to reduce the level of detail in the Table of Contents. All the styles etc are based on the topic hierarchy in the map and Word template used.
You can also compare how much harder a document is to browse and assimilate. Same information, different presentation but for me the map version is far easier to view and understand.
Download Word Export of My_PC_Application_Map.doc (362.0K)
I have placed the map the extended portion of this post to prevent Firefox users getting activex messages. Click on the link below to view the full post with map

Justin, This is really basic MindManager stuff but it shows how nice it is for managing information. I've added the Word document version (straight from the MindManager Map) to the post but compare how hard it is to browse. The map is so much friendlier to navigate.

Thank you! I've searched for something like this to do development work for a few months now. Thanks again!

Nice Job. I continue to be amazed by what you can do with this program. Now if I can find the time to use it the way you do. I've only used it for simple brainstorming and organizations.
Keep posting what you are doing with it.
